Right guys.....basically....i have an alienware m15x laptop, with the standard disc drive. Now, up until a few days ago....had no problems whatsoever. Soo a few days ago....my laptop decides it's not going to accept my Bad Company 2 disc...and as i didnt verify it....i have no way of playing it now..

So, today...i've tried some other things.....tried a few dvd's...nothing....Windows 7 boot disc.....nothing...

Thought i'd try a standrd disc for my usb tv card and printer and lo and behold they both work fine?
What's happening....is it's a slot drive, so i put the disc in....it waits a few seconds, makes some noises as if it's trying to read it then stops and ejects it.....

I think the problem goes back to when i bought and tried installing this usb tv card (its a compro [sh*t] thing) and it's now a right pain for me as i cant really do anything with my laptop! Any solutions?

no, i need serious answers here...you gimpo...

Why will it read a printer disc, or discs like that, but nothing important that i need? From what i've read things are saying my disc drive is broken...but if that were the case it would read nothing correct?

CD's & DVD's are read by different frequency lasers, so not reading DVD's but still reading CD's is a common sympton of a [f*cked] drive. It's the same laser but with different control circuits so one has gone tits up.
Cheapest solution = external usb drive, samsung do quite a good that's usb powered.

See if a mate has an external usb dvd drive, if they do and all your discs work [f*cked] internal drive, I'll put money on your dvd-drive being bolloxed, is it less than a year old, if so take it back and complain.

tell them how disgusted you are then, say obviously the laptop was not of merchantable quality and you demand a replacement, sent by themselves and when the delivery driver drops of your replacement he can take this one away. Up to you but warranty's
are there to be used.

Dell should forward you a new drive to fit yourself. Get an RMA code at least so they know it is fubar before your warrenty expires
