Alrightt, its a different laptop, but I've been on hers today...and it is that wireless card. There are many problems with it according to websites tho! Ive just put the old one in for now....im lagging a bit but oh well :/




If i wanted to go wired (i have an NTL Cable wire) in my room......and theres another one downstairs....if i could get a connector thingie to share the connection, can you run 2 modems off the 1 line (like one modem upstairs, my room) one downstairs? How much would a modem cost to do this?

The wire they installed is downstairs, and the wire that connects to my room is in more or less the same place!

If Porkies solution doesnt work you can always try this: buy a simple 100Mbit network switch and put it after the modem and connect your lappy with a utp cable to it. That way you can 'share' your connection with a cabled lan.
Let the biatch struggle with her wireless connection while you play lagfree through a nice and nifty cable

if it's a router it will have a built in switch so just connect up by utp. How many wires in the ntl cable? if it's 8 then you could probably use that to save running a new one see http://www.zytrax.com/tech/layer_1/cabl ... n.htm#100c

for this price give it a shot and if your rooms been cut off ull have a cheap spare (hang on try the one downstairs in your room first ;) if it works your good to go and will have a connection to your self .. you could still plug the other wirless box into this one so yer mates can use its wirless capability just means u have 2 wirless points in the house snotty bitch has one so if nything goes wrong with that one she has to fix it herself as u guys are on a seperate router wifi box)

he has a coaxial cable to his room, probably so all the rooms could have cable tv.
The UK cable system requires a router+switch not just a switch because the cable modem only supports a single MAC address.
Most wireless routers include a 4 port switch and a cable router definately should.
The problem with HER laptop may lay with the software and not the physical card, updated software is often available from Intel.
An alternative is to try using Windows own config utility rather than Intels.
Why are you using weak WEP encryption rather than not quite as weak WPA/WPA2?
It doesn't really matter as anyone monitoring your tranmissions for 24hrs or so has a 95% of discovering your encryption key and a 100% chance in 48hrs.
I wonder how many people in digs nearby are studying some formm of ICT.
(they changed the name to ICT because the tutors got fed with people taking the piss because they taught it)
(imagine spending 4 years at uni and only leaving with a degree in it)
