after my non disaster with the CPU cooling I decided to fit an aftermarket cooler to my 4870

) so I tried refitting it with a bit of arctic silver --------- DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME ---------- some of the silver found it's way where it shouldn't - result pc wont boot. So I'm stuck with a lappy till I can afford another graphics card

remove new bit & mods wash thoroughly with surgical alcohol or trichloroethylene (try a local tyre shop for a product call Tiptop Liquid Buffer or an equivelant)
rinse with medical grade distilled water (not demineralised) and allow to dry thoroughly
blasting excess water away with compressed gas (from a can not compressor) should get drying out time to about a day. reassemble with conservative amounts of PLAIN silicon HTC. refitted to pc
offer a prayer to the diety of your choice
close eyes, hit power button
open eyes
If it's still dead and you didn't butcher any bits you can now put it back in the box and send it back as faulty

I've heard Hanzy talk!
Some people are like Slinkies. They’re not really good for anything; but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs!

I already washed and dried it (we have a large supply of pcb cleaner and our own water still
) The card is showing the correct diagnostic light sequence but no output to monitor. However a spare pci-e card gets as far as displaying bios but won't start loading off of drives so there m ay be a different fault somewhere. I'll check it out fully after the weekend. Luckily I have access to many alternative parts on a test basis - psu mb gpu cpu hd dvd etc. I suspect i may have dislodged a power cable to the MB when fitting the card.
PS in case I get it working anyone know of a good graphics voltage reg cooler, or do I have to make my own? (and next time I'm sticking to ceramique!!

ill send u an old cpu cooler if u need one grumps . to make ur own (got loads hanging around for my own stick it on jobbie,s(if AM would take a photo of the card i sent him ud see humongos buggers on it lmao)
got tape as well if you need some
i use this guy for it
Thermal tape - Sekisui #5760 - double-sided adhesive ,strips not sqaures as u can cut to size better
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/I-Get-Those-Ha ... idZ2QQtZkm
been eyeing up the thermal gap filler gel pads as well . might give em a try see if their any good (ie mem chips under main coolers were its hard to place heat sinks and get rid of that shite pink foam rubbish)might also try it on the underside of a mobo onto the back wall of case see if it drops cpu temps or other component temps
