Is the route of the coaxial cable visible/accessible?
If it is you may be able to route a CAT5 ethernet cable the same way, thus eliminating your wireless problem (then you can say [f*ck] hers)
If the holes are already there, it shouldn't cause a problem.
Or maybe talk to your landlord, he might willing to run the cable for you if it doesn't cause to much cosmetic damage.

the cable runs from my room, around around around and down, there's no way i could get a cable all the way round there :P
We have enough trouble getting him to come around when someone floods the bathroom, asking him to drill a few holes? Nahhh! :P
So are you saying it's not possible to have the 1 cable coming into the house from Virgin...buying a splitter.......then connecting the wire from my room into this splitter, and running my own modem off there? While the other modem is also functioning?

other options to go wired are -
1) coax to ethernet adaptor kit to use the installed coax cable - a bit pricey atm
2) lan over mains -

right u taffy [tw*t] answer these simple questions
1.can you count to 100
2 do you own a measuring device with the cm/mm and inch markings on, usually called a tape measure
(no not a leek) as rulers are pretty fckin hard to do what im about to ask u to do
3 how large are your digs 3 up 2 down terraced house size?
4.are the living room or were the modem is situated carpeted
5 is the hall carpeted/stairs/landing
6 is you stinky bedroom carpeted
7 buy a fcking 15metre or 20 metre lan cable and shut the fck up
lay it under the skirting edges (the bit were carpet meets the wall)
